# Peer Discussions

We host small, facilitated discussion groups where people who do emergency management work compare notes on the realities of the work: what's working, what's hard, and what people are trying.

These aren't webinars or presentations. Everyone is invited to contribute, and no one is expected to be an expert.

### How they work

- Small: about 5 to 6 people
- Online: about 45 minutes, monthly
- Facilitated: our first sessions are guided by Rebecca Allen, a CESCIL board member who works with leaders on human-centered approaches to innovation and change
- Chatham House Rule: you’re welcome to share what you hear, but nothing that could identify the speaker or their organization. [Learn more about the Chatham House Rule.](https://www.chathamhouse.org/about-us/chatham-house-rule)
- No preparation needed: just bring your experience
- Free to join

### What a session looks like

1. Introductions: your context, and what you'd like to get out of the discussion
2. Discussion: two or three short segments on the session's theme, drawing on participants' own experiences
3. Takeaways: each person shares one idea or insight they're taking with them

A session doesn't need to solve anything. Hearing a new perspective, finding words for a challenge, or meeting someone worth knowing is enough.

After each session, we'll ask for brief feedback so we can keep improving.

## Current series

## Creating the Conditions for Innovation

The ability to innovate depends on the conditions around people: time, relationships, and support. This series explores what helps practitioners try better ways of doing things, and what gets in the way.

Our first sessions begin in Fall 2026.

### Who should join

People who do emergency management work, often in roles between strategy and emergency service delivery. For example, an emergency manager, a fire chief, or someone wearing several hats in a smaller community. Paid or volunteer, at any level of government or organization.

### Join a discussion

To request a seat, fill out a short form about your context and the topics you’re interested in. We use this to put together small groups where people can learn from each other. If there’s a spot that fits, we’ll send you the details before your session. If not, we’ll let you know when the next one opens.
