Why CESCIL?

Supporting communities through crisis isn't one job, and it isn't one field.

Across emergency services, the jurisdictions, roles and paths of first responders, emergency managers, and community leaders vary widely. We all have different cultures, different ways of working, of talking to each other.

We know this work is all about relationships. In each of our fields, people are already connecting with each other to do important work.

All too often though, cross-sector collaboration looks like responding to a scene - and then packing up and saying, 'bye, see you next time.' Increasingly, this kind of working together is just simply not enough.

What if we worked together behind the scenes?

What if we set ourselves up with cross-sector understanding, tools and relationships to reach for when we need it?

As the crises of our world become more interconnected, prolonged, and complex, this work becomes less about controlling and commanding disruptions, and more about being resilient. It becomes more important that we'reable to communicate across boundaries.

We need to be able to work with each other, trust, and lean on each other.

This is about being adaptive, legitimate, and cohesive in the face of continuous change.

The more we live through these uncertain times, the more these relationships, shared visibility and understanding become essential infrastructure.

We believe that the people who support communities through crisis deserve the knowledge, tools, and relationships they need to shape better ways of doing this work.
